The Irish Defence Forces (Oglaigh na hEireann) 100th anniversary 2013

The Irish Defence Forces will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Irish Volunteers, Oglaigh na hEireann, throughout 2013.

The Irish Air Corp completed 98 Air Ambulance missions during 2012. The pilot Emergency Aeromedical Service, based in Athlone, launched 113 missions during 2012.

SVUH 2013 - Celebrating 20 years of Liver Transplantation

The National Liver Unit, St Vincent's University Hospital, has pioneered orthotopic liver transplantation in Ireland since 1993. To date almost 700 liver transplantations have been successfully performed. The Irish Kidney Asociation says 2013 was a 'record' year for organ transplants with a total of 293 being perfromed, of which 55 liver transplants were carried out at St. Vicent's University Hospital.
